why The Alice? why now?
At the Alice we respect artists, we listen and we facilitate challenging conversations. We don't prioritize institutional norms or timelines. We are strategic about the ways we engage with our communities and the ways we confront stale "art world" routines. We have fun. What makes a strong exhibition? I like it when exhibitions support the artists' community and the artists' vision of community rather than the art world “community”. I don't want an exhibition to tell me the way the world is- I want an exhibition to provoke me (and other viewers around me) to grapple with the way the world is. |

What are you excited to learn from the other Alices this year?
I admire the way Surface builds community by strategically connecting creative organizers, artists and institutional support. I admire the way that Julia listens carefully and advocates for artists on their terms. I admire the way that Emily balances her quick wit and sensitive soul and shows up to support artists working in all different media and forms. Satpreet is a brave and brilliant artist who has taught and continues to teach me so much about how to show up for artists and communities of color in Seattle. Natalie is one of my favorite poets storytellers and I look forward to working with her on expanding the Alice writer program.
What is your day job(s)?
I do a range of things- I'm a freelance videographer/editor, I teach video and narrative art with an emphasis on social change and sometimes I do freelance curating projects. None of those things pay the bills so I also do a range of service industry jobs- day-of wedding coordinator, barista, server, bartender, etc
