Colleen Hayward’s painted paper objects, inspired by rocks in Wyoming she encountered while on a residency, are wrapped around a rattley core. They have a contradictory presence - both fragile and strong, brittle and moist. Justyn Hegreberg’s painting collages riff off of a painting format but give the viewer actual layers to negotiate via wrappings of various materials including nylon, metal leaf, and fragments of photographs. Sometimes he adds a meta-wrapping of simple, drugstore frames. Saya Moriyasu’s newest artistic endeavor, courtesy Gail Gibson Gallery, offers a wrapping/adornment for your body with intricately beaded and woven necklaces that play at the edge of various cultures, past and contemporary.
