swallow me
opening reception on July 15, 2017 from 4-7pm
Saturdays, July 15- August 26, 2017
Leon Finley presupposes that our bodies are the only way we have of understanding ourselves, and everything that is not ourselves. His solo exhibition Swallow Me presents recent drawings and sculptures that explore interdependency, love, and the relationships between all kinds of bodies: humans, architectures, objects.
Born in 1987 in Seattle as Sonia Finley, Leon spent 12 years on the East Coast before returning to the Northwest in 2016. Leon received his BFA from Cooper Union in 2009 and his MFA in Sculpture from Yale in 2012. Leon was the recipient of the Jacques and Natasha Gelman Trust Prize in 2009 and the Blair Dickinson Memorial Prize and Dan David Prize Scholarship in 2012, and was a finalist for the Henry Art Gallery's 2017 Brink Award. Leon has performed in venues such as the Whitney Museum of American Art and Movement Research. Leon has taught at Cooper Union, Virginia Commonwealth University and Montclair State University. He currently lives and works in Seattle, Washington.
